Sept. 30 - When Events Happen Smoothly Part 4

We worked with the Case Manager from CCAC for Mom and she suggested "Crisis Mode" to get Mom into the first available home which could take 2 weeks and we could not be picky...we had to take whatever became available (although we could move her later).

Dad had his brain surgery, which I gave permission for as Power of Attorney as he was no longer capable of making decisions. It went well and within a few days he was in a rehab facility. He even agreed to put Mom in a home but we believe he thinks it will be just until he comes out of the hospital.

The papers for Mom's Crisis Placement were submitted on the Friday and the caseworker said she would let us know if she heard anything on Monday. We were entering week 2 of this whole situation.

On the Wednesday, I received a phone call that a bed had become available and Mom could be admitting on the Friday. We did not have much choice and we took it. Mom was admitted on the Friday.

What I found interesting is that the day that Mom came home from the hospital originally, I had a message on my answering machine where a Long-Term Care Facility called the wrong number to book a tour of their home. I called them back to let the girl know that she had called the wrong number and told her that we had just brought my mother home from the hospital and were looking into long-term care. She thought that was kind of spooky and I just thought it was a message from Spirit confirming that Mom would indeed be going into a home.

We learned A LOT of things throughout the 2 weeks - it felt like months! We even managed to straighten out the finances so that we could pay the bills. It only took me running back and forth to the bank and the hospital several times in one day.

A bit of advice for those of you out there...a Power of Attorney is only good when a person is alive but incapable of making decisions. If the person dies, the accounts are frozen and you won't be able to get funds out if necessary. The better idea is to get your name on the account.

Read the Summary on Monday!

so helpful to have it all settled before there is a crisis!
